A novel about a frontier training run, the money behind it and the evidence that has to survive it. Ira Bhandari loses a deal on a phone call and is left in a dead paper mill on the Ganga canal at Jwalapur, holding a broker's fee she guaranteed personally. Then she puts her hand in the water: eleven point four degrees, off a glacier last week, and the reason twelve people in a shed can do what everybody says needs four hundred. They build in the Uttarakhand foothills because the power is cheap and the cooling is free, win the largest compute allocation the country has ever made, and train six hundred and ten billion parameters for ninety-one days without stopping, through a routing failure on day six, a straggler nobody can find, a monsoon flood that puts a man under water for four minutes, and a loss curve that will not come back. On a cold December morning they give the weights away and reset the price of intelligence on three continents before lunch. Then a forensic researcher in Zurich publishes six tests, five of which clear the company completely, and they have ninety-six hours to prove they built it. The engineering is the plot: the tokenizer decision that halves the cost of a language, the cache arithmetic that turns a long context window from a demonstration into a margin, the difference between a text box and a state machine. Four appendices carry the numbers, the operating model, the capability blueprint, the ancestry battery and the specification that ends up in a public trust because nobody can be allowed to own it. The arithmetic is real. The company is not. Paperback, 224 pages.
